Ticehurst Camping Challenge
Saturday 4th April 2009 till Sunday 5th April 2009
Teams: Ticehurst Boys, Ticehurst
Mixed, Uckfield and Rotherfield.
In my team (Ticehurst Mixed) there was
Hannah, Carl and Sophie.
Judges: Brian (district commissioner)
and Pam (Fellowship).
Day 1 ~ Saturday 4th April 2009
We
arrived at Blacklands farm at midday and located our camp site called Pewits (
each field is named after a bird). We were last to arrive as usual and after
everyone had introduced themselves
Everybody then had to present there dinner menus in an interesting way. Carl did
our menu and he did really well as he did have to make it up on the spot.
Afterwards everybody had to go and pitch a camp site and put up a store tent,
dining shelter and the girls tent to
sleep in (Carl shared a tent with Rotherfield that night). Then for the rest of
the 3 hours we wood collected and we had a good wood pill by the time we had to
make dinner. Than we made a fire on a altar fire which is where u can make a
fire underneath a grill so you can put pots and pans onto it. Then the fire had
gone down to embers. For dinner we made chicken/tomato soup for starter then for
main meal we had kebabs with chicken, mushroom, onion and peppers and for
pudding we had custard with peaches. The report for the meal that the judges
gave us for that meal sounded good, and Carl had a good sense that we were
winning. When everybody had washed up and all went to a massive campfire circle.
When we got there we found the brownies had beaten us to it so we ask to join
them and they said yes. We sang songs with when for and hour or so and then they
went of to bed and we were there on our own.
To earn more points we had to do a sketch or a story round the camp fire
and Carl told 3 ghost stories and the other troops did sketches which were
funny. When we had done that we all left and headed back to the camp site to
play a wide games. We played a game where
you had to get to the face of a big barrel without a leader catching you.
Everybody looked like they were having a great time. At first three of the
scouts made it but then as the rounds continued less and less scouts were
completing it and started playing bundle! Then all the leaders left except
Gareth and all the scouts were trying to get him to the ground and eventually we
did but it was not a soft landing. Afterwards we all went back to camp to sort
our fires out and get to bed.
Day 2 ~ Sunday 5th April 2009
When we got up we all started to
collect fire wood ready to make breakfast which was porridge followed by egg,
bacon and pitter bread and orange juice to drink. After that we had to pack our
bags and Herbie to get ready to leave. When everybody had packed we got to hear
the results. They kept congratulating everybody and we were so nervous for the
results. Then the scores were in.
The results : 4th Place ~ Ticehurst
Boys
3rd Place ~ Uckfield Scouts
2nd Place ~ Rotherfield Scouts
And we knew that meant one thing! . .
. in 1ST PLACE ~ TICEHURST MIXED!
We were amazed that we had won and our
award was a trophy in the shape of a tent peg but everybody did get a prize and
that was a box of heroes.
Afterwards we all went climbing on the
letter shaped wall and then we went up the harder wall. Then we had races in 2
teams (we did not get points for this) and my team won one and the other team
won one. That was really good to end the day with and then it was time to go
home. We could not wait to tell our parents the results!
