Space Camp

Friday 29th May 2009

Some of the scouts arrived at the hut and started to load the cars for this amazing space themed camp. The remainder of the Ashdown Troops arrived at Blacklands Farm later that day while the Ticehurst Troop helped to set up. There was so much to be done. When everybody had arrived and settled in we set off to the massive campfire circle where we sang very cheerful songs. The fire was huge which made things better. After the jolly campfire we all went back to the camp site and had a drink and something to eat before the wide game which was the best. What we had to do was find some leaders carrying the space ship Star Destroyer (star wars) and we had to go and hunt them down trying to capture the spaceship but knowing us scouts everything got ripped apart. It was in a bad state afterwards with all the wood splitting and the polystyrene being pulled off so the leaders started to make us come back to base and wash and go to bed as we had a busy day to follow!

Saturday 30th May 2009

It was an early start for the scouts because they had to be ready before the beavers and cubs arrived. When all the troops had arrived it was flag break and it was so good seeing all the scout, cubs and beavers in their space themed outfits including Star Trekkers and Star Wars.

After Flag Break the leaders put the scouts into activity groups mixing everybody up. All the groups had a chance to do all the following activates on the rota:

  1. AeroBall - You bounce on trampolines trying to score in the opponents goal.

  2. Bungee Trampolines 1 - Bounce high on a trampoline with a harness doing flips and other moves.

  3. Low Ropes - You have to go across an obstacle course but there is alot of slack of the rope causing you to fall.

  4. Jedi Training - You have to follow a piece of rope blindfolded but the catch is that on the rope there are plastic bags with food mixed up in and you ether have to touch it or taste it.

  5. Water Rockets - You fill a plastic bottle up with water and then put it on the end of a pump until the rocket flies up into the air.

  6. Swimming

  7. Rockets - We watch professionals launch real rockets into the air and come back down on a parachute.

Then it was time for the Sedan Chair Race. This event was run in teams of 4 and you had to lash 2 long wooden poles to a food crate. One person then sat in the box and was carried around an obstacle course by the other team members. This was really hard as it was around a massive field which was very steep. Ticehurst scouts girls team did really well (Hannah, Jess, Meghan and Sophie) came in 1st. While this was happening the beavers and cubs went on a tardis hunt. Later in the afternoon some of the South East Rocket Club came and put on a display with various rockets some went really high and others disappeared into the trees. It was a wonderful display and everybody enjoyed themselves.

Then it was freetime followed by an evening meal, another campfire with the rest of the scout groups, Jess's investment and last of all a wide game where we had to find a scout leader and throw water balloons at him. After all the fun it was time for a hot drink and bed.

Sunday 31st May 2009

The morning was full of activities, the scouts did the activities that they did not do on Saturday and the cubs had a space race. After everybody was back it was lunchtime and then the whole troop went swimming. It was then time to pack everything away and leave another wonderful camp.
