Breacon Beacon Wales Trip To Practice For The Overland

Day 1 ~ Friday 13th March 2009

We got picked up from school and had to go to the Ben Grieg service as I hired car had a problem and that took ages to mend but then we were on our way to our long journey to Wales. The bridge between England and Wales was amazing in the dark with all the light on. We got to where we were staying (a bunk house) and had to unload the car which was loads as we had to carry the camping gear for our next night.

Day 2 ~ Saturday 14th March 2009

When we got up we had breakfast, packed our bags and because it was a practice for the 5 23 Overland we had to carry our tents, food and gas up the massive mountains. We started at the bunk house which was Llangors Rope Centre - Gill Fach 250metres high. We walked for ??miles the first day and we got lost not that many times. Our first hill we reaches was Mynnedd Troed which was 609metres which is very high, I had never walked over anything that high before especially with 10kg on my back. Then we reached Castell Dinas (castle) which was 450metres which is still high (to me anyway). There was barely nothing left of the castle.  As we continued our hilly journey in the Breacon Beacons we reached a set of house called Rhyd-y-car farm and we asked if we could sleep in their field for the night and they said yes. Even though we did not reach the right destination I though it was still a good achievement. That day we had done 10km (equivalent to 15km on flat land) but in miles that would be 17miles.

Day 3 ~ Sunday 15th March 2009

Another early start for Team Ticehurst that morning and we climbed more hill and mountains and then reached an even bigger mountain that before which was Pen Trymau which was 707metres. When we can down the other side there was another big mountain but not as big and that was Cairns which was 607metres. They were the most difficult mountains/hills on that whole experience. As the adventure continued the hills were not getting as steep. The next hill we reached was Mynydd Lysiau which was 450metres descent. This next hill was probably the easiest in the whole journey and that was Pon Waun Fach which was 200metres. As the day went on we walked over more hills like Bleanua Draw which is 300metres and Cockit Hill which is 400metres. Then the troop had a race who could go u the mountain quickest while the other went round the mountain Mynnydd Llangors which was 506metres. Me, Meghan, Tony and Sharon went round the mountain while  Hannah, Callum and Jake went over the mountain and that was a big mistake. Me, Meghan, Tony and Sharon won by far as the other had got lost on top of the mountains and so Tony phoned them and they had know idea what he was on about as the other had asked some cyclists which way to go and that lead them in the wrong direction. Tony went off to help the others while Me, Meghan and Sharon waited down the bottom and they arrived after 2 hours or so. We were so cross as that time is was about 8:00pm and it takes ages to get home as we all had school the next day. That day we had travelled a distance of 17km (equivalent to 22km on flat land) and in miles that is 23miles.

IN TOTAL FOR THE TWO DAYS WE WALKED WE DID 27KMM OR 37KM FLAT (IF YOU PREFER 17MILES AND 23MILES). WHAT A GREAT ADVENTURE!
