When we arrived we split into two teams. The two teams went round Ticehurst taking pictures of interesting things like the church and the war manorial incase people wanted to know what Ticehurst looked like and to hear our comments about it. When we had finished taking pictures my group went on walkie talkies. Our challenge was to say our name in the phonetic alphabet and my name is:- Sierra, Oscar, Papa, Hotel, India & Echo = Sophie. Afterwards we went on the computers and found the Joti website where you talk to people all over the world like Norway, England and even New Zealand. I was talking to many people on the computers and radio for round about 14 hours and they all sound very keen to talk to me but Paul had to ruin by it by saying “we had to rest our eyes because we had been looking at the computer screens for to long” which was sad but true so instead most people went to bed. In the morning which was about two hours later we were all back on the computers talking to different scouts all over the world. When everyone had left I counted all the pins on the map which is where we had recorded all the places we had contacted on the computer and radio and if my counting was accurate we talked to a total of 192 people which is a lot. The people in charge of our radios where helping us find people to talk to which was very hard because we had bad reception sometimes which made it difficult to hear them the other end of the line. There were a few groups with really good signals and we told them our names in the phonetic alphabet and they had to guess what they were and then we swapped round so we had to guess there names which was really fun. They asked me a question which was “would you like this event to happen next year?” and I said “yes, because it is a good opportunity to hear about other scout troops and the different activities and challenges they do”. After that we all said our final goodbyes and set off home and ever since I have been on Joti at home for at least two hours everyday and I still talk to people all over the world as I enjoyed it so much!
